City Year is established.
July 6, 1988
Located initially on Fort Point Channel, it is founded by recent Harvard Law School graduates Michael Brown and Allan Khazei. The organization begins with a class of 50 young men and women ages 17 to 24 who engage in a two-year program of community service in Boston in exchange for a small stipend and college tuition money. It subsequently expands to 24 other U.S. cities and two in other countries and 2,700 corps members. The program in Boston begins to concentrate on tutoring in the Boston public schools in 2007. It is currently located at 287 Columbus Avenue.
